If you’re like us and say the more obscure the
better with your wines, then you are really going to
appreciate and enjoy the Chateau Bouissel Classic.
Produced in the Frontonais region of France’s
southwest, an area wedged between Bordeaux to
the north and the Basque country and Spain to the
south. AOC rules in the Fronton state that all wines
produced there must contain a minimum of 50%
Negrette, a rare Forgotten Grape with rich, dark,
brooding, tannic overtones. The Chateau Bouissel
Classic is 50 % Negrette, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon,
20% Syrah, and 10% Cot, which you probably know
better as Malbec. Fruity, floral and spicy all at once,
this wine pairs well with all types of cuisine and
may also be enjoyed by itself, if you like your wines
dark and intense. Drink it at room temperature, or
even slightly chilled. This is the kind of wine that
will stump even the most knowledgeable of your
snobby wine friends, so pick up a bottle the next
time you’re getting together with that wine know-
it-all, and watch him get hot under the collar when
he can’t tell you what he’s drinking and just keeps
guessing wrong.
